A sealer, in relation to kitchen cabinets, refers to a type of coating applied to the surface of the cabinets to protect them from moisture, stains, and other potential damages. The sealer creates a barrier between the cabinet's surface and the environment, preventing water, oil, and other substances from seeping into the wood and causing damage or discoloration.
Sealers come in various types, including oil-based, water-based, and wax-based. The type of sealer used on kitchen cabinets depends on the type of wood, the level of exposure to moisture and other substances, and the desired level of sheen. Sealers can also be clear or tinted to match the color of the cabinets or to add a different hue.
Applying a sealer to kitchen cabinets is an important step in maintaining their appearance and durability. A properly sealed cabinet is easier to clean and less likely to sustain damage from spills, scratches, or exposure to humidity. Regular reapplication of the sealer can help to prolong the lifespan of the cabinets and keep them looking their best.
